About the
Program
The programme offers the fundamentals of ceramics medium, an in-depth introduction to basic methods of handling clay and its plasticity, pinching, coiling slab and working on the pottery wheel. The programme offers comprehensive knowledge about clay formation, glaze development, various methods of glaze application and firing in electrical kilns. Students would develop also a deep understanding of the historical timelines and cultural landscape through which the craft of ceramics evolved. The programme investigates the history studio pottery movement as well as the Indian tradition of pottery practice. Conclusively, it leads students to discover their own form and identify their suitable style for creating their own ceramics & Pottery.
Making them potential to start their own ceramic studio.

Syllabus
1. FOUNDATION WEEK FOR VISUAL ARTS
Learning Fundamentals of arts like line, colour, value, composition, form, brush work and perspective, rhythm, these fundamentals can provide a foundation for your art as you discover new ways to compose pieces.
2. INTRODUCTION TO CLAY
Clay being the oldest and the rudimentary material from human civilisation, has evolved as a sensitive material to capture desired expressions & forms. The Course introduces the potentialities of clay, and handling methods, to make students aware of the plasticity of the material and also the challenges it throws at the artist. By creating basic/geometric forms and different methods students are able to relate various making techniques to desired forms and shapes.
3. MEDIUM AND TECHNIQUES
The course brings about the knowledge of the traditional ceramic practices with dereference to geographical locations and about the influence of regional specificities of clay on the spectrum of ceramic artwork. It explores both traditional ways of working with clay as well as the contemporary experimentations that are found in public installations as well as in works of Fine Art. The foundational leanings acquired thus will enable students to transition from abstract ideas to execute tangible forms. Learning the basics of wheel throwing. with a better understanding of techniques and step by step methods.
4. DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
The Course introduces students to situation-based designing and execution of functional objects with design interventions in various situations. It would induce them to create objects with intended meanings. Use of visual representation and communication skills form an integral part of the Course. Introduction to more complex forms and functional pottery as well as sculptural artifacts.
5. FIELD TRIP
Visiting to practising studio potters from an academic background and from different professions who are engaged in professional pottery would be a learning about how the studios are set up and also exploring the possibilities of interning under them. The field trips would provide students with border avenues of studio pottery professions and will also make them aware of the challenges

Infrastructure
Our Visual Art and Computational Design labs are equipped with a blend of traditional studio facilities and cutting-edge digital technology. The infrastructure supports creative exploration across mediums, combining hands-on art-making with advanced computational tools. Key resources include high-resolution drawing tablets, 3D printers, laser cutters, VR/AR systems, powerful workstations with design software (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Blender, Rhino, and Processing), and dedicated spaces for digital fabrication and projection-based installations. These labs foster a multidisciplinary approach, encouraging innovation at the intersection of art, design, and computation.
