About the Chief Mentor:

Dr. Sewanti Limaye

Dr. Sewanti Limaye is the Director of Medical & Precision Oncology and Director of Clinical and Translational Oncology Research at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai. She has over 20 years of experience in treating solid tumors including breast, lung, head & neck, GI, GU and gynecological cancers.

She completed MBBS from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, residency in Internal Medicine at New York University, fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology from Albert Einstein University, and an MS in Patient Oriented Research from Columbia University.

Dr. Limaye has previously worked at Columbia University Medical Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. She is the founder/co-founder of several global initiatives including Nova Precision AI, Liquid Biopsy Foundation India, and Iylon Precision Oncology.

She has led multiple national and international clinical trials and received several awards including the ASCO Medical Oncology Research Excellence Award. Her work focuses on advancing precision oncology and cancer research in India.

Curriculum

I. Program Overview & Regulations
  • Duration: 12 Months.
  • Eligibility: MD (Gen. Medicine / Family Medicine / Geriatric Medicine) or DNB.
  • Training Pattern: Residency-based with graded responsibility in patient care, laboratory
    work, and research.
  • Attendance: 80% mandatory for exam eligibility.
  • Logbook: Mandatory documentation of clinical procedures (Bone marrow, CSF taps, Central lines),
    seminars, and MDT meetings.
II. Course Contents: Systemic & Precision Oncology
1. Solid Tumors & Site-Specific Malignancies
   * Alimentary Canal: Esophagus, Stomach, Liver (Primary & Metastatic), Gallbladder/Biliary Tract,
Pancreas, Small Intestine, Colon, Rectum, and Anus.
   * Genitourinary Tract: Renal Cell Carcinoma, Bladder, Prostate, Testis, and Penis.
   * Thorax & Breast: Lung, Mediastinum (Thymus), and Breast Cancer.
   * Head, Neck & Endocrine: Thyroid, Pituitary, Adrenal Cortex, and Oral Cavity.
   * Skin & Musculoskeletal: Malignant Melanoma, Soft Tissue Sarcomas, and Bone Tumors.
   * Special Categories: Neoplasms in AIDS and Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP).
2. Hematological Malignancies
   * Leukemias: Acute (AML, ALL) and Chronic (CML, CLL) Leukemias; Hairy Cell and Mast Cell
Leukemias.
    * Lymphomas: Hodgkin’s Disease and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphomas; Mycosis Fungoides.
   * Plasma Cell Disorders: Multiple Myeloma and related Plasma Cell Tumors.
   * Myeloproliferative Disorders: Polycythemia Vera and Essential Thrombocythemia.
III. Complications, Supportive Care & Emergencies

1. Management of Treatment-Related Toxicity

 

•Systemic Toxics: Hematologic (Anemia/Neutropenia), Gastrointestinal (Mucositis, Nausea/Vomiting),
and Dermatologic complications.
•Organ-Specific: Cardiotoxicity, Nephrotoxicity, Hepatotoxicity, and Neurotoxicity.
•Long-term Effects: Gonadal complications, Secondary cancers, and Endocrine dysfunction.
2. Supportive & Palliative Care
•Pain Management, Anorexia/Cachexia, and Psychosocial Oncology.
•Blood Bank Support and Coagulopathic management.
•Infectious Disease management in immunocompromised cancer patients.

3. Oncologic Emergencies

 

•Superior Vena Cava Syndrome
•Spinal Cord Compression
•Tumor Lysis Syndrome
•Febrile Neutropenia
•Hypercalcemia of Malignancy.
IV. Final Examination (Theory & Practical)
• Theory (200 Marks): Two papers covering Basic Sciences, Solid Tumors, Hematology/Pediatrics, and Recent Advances/Emergencies.
• Practical (200 Marks): Clinical case examinations (Long/Short/Spot cases) and Viva Voce focusing on depth of knowledge and ethical reasoning.
V. Teaching & Assessment

MDT / Clinicopathological Weekly Multidisciplinary treatment planning.
