Objectives
Bachelor of Science in Environment and Sustainability (BSc-ES) is a full-time undergraduate programmeoffered by the School of Public Health at DYPU. The curriculumof the programme is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.The programme is designed to address the growing demand for professionals who can understand, analyse, and respond to complex challenges in our environment. This interdisciplinary programme integrates pedagogy and principles from the health sciences, social sciences, engineering, policy, and management to develop well-rounded graduates capable of making a positive impact on the global environment landscape.
Duration & Pedagogy
The programme commences in the first week of July every year. It is a 160 credits 4-year full time programme spread across 8 semesters. Pedagogy for each module has been meticulously planned with emphasis on experiential learning through interactive class discussions, internships, field assignments, and research projects. Embedded within it are principles of ethics, ecological awareness, language, culture and communication setting the direction for an understanding of the multistakeholder involvement in environment and sustainability. The school infrastructure has been thoughtfully designed to promote interaction and team work.
A crucial component of the programme is practical training and internships, where students gain real-world experience by working with environment science agencies, NGOs, healthcare facilities, and research institutions. Additionally, the programme is designed to empower students with communication, social and interpersonal skills as well as an innate understanding of Data Science and Analytics, which they would need to thrive in the workplace.The School has forged meaningful collaborations with various national and international organizations, government and voluntary organizations, policy think tanks, consultant agencies andenvironmental and public health institutes to provide ample exposure to its students.
Choice based electives provides students the flexibility to tailor their education based on their interests and career aspirations, making the programme versatile and adaptable to changing needs. Students can opt for disciplinary minorelectives in the areas of gender & environment, behaviour change theories, one health, environmental entrepreneurship and more. Students also have the unique opportunity to be part of various student driven activities. These include student clubs, professional development events, hackathons, field trips, observing health days, contributing to the school newsletter, cultural and sports fest. These provide them a chance to explore new topics, showcase leadership skills, be culturally sensitive and gain new skills.

This aids in broadening their horizons as they are exposed to a global student community and learn from the perspectives shared by a larger group of experts from the field.
Programme Outcomes
Upon satisfactory completion of BSc -ES, graduates should be able to:
- Understand the basics of environment sciences and its linkages to human behaviour including climate adaptation and resilience.
- Comprehend the Economic, Policy and Governance that impact Environment and contribute to disparities.
- Learn and appreciate climate and green finance.
- Use research methodologies both qualitative & quantitative to carry out environment focused research.
- Use the fundamental concepts of programme implementation including planning, assessment, and evaluation to address environment challenges
- Apply principles of communication to effectively communicate scientific evidence through the right channels.
- Use Geospatial technology to generate, analyze and disseminate crucial evidence
Scope of The Programme
The world is facing a myriad of environment related challenges such as the increasing pollution, population explosion, rapid urbanization, inappropriate waste management and so on. A BSc ES programme provides students with a holistic understanding of these complexities, enabling them to collaborate across disciplines and devise comprehensive solutions. The demand for environment science professionals is escalating, both locally and globally. Health departments, non-governmental organizations, environmental organization and agencies, healthcare institutions, research organizations, and international agencies all require skilled individuals who can devise evidence-based strategies with a strong focus on environmental action to achieve change on the ground.
Placement Opportunities And Job Roles
Eligibility Criteria
- Prospective candidates are required to have successfully completed the 10+2 or an equivalent examination in any stream from a recognized board with a minimum aggregate of 50%.
- Those who fall under the category of Foreign Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRI), or Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), should have undertaken an equivalent grade examination outside India.
